INDONESIA IS FINALISING A BIOFUEL ROADMAP, TARGETED FOR PUBLICATION NEXT MONTH

The Indonesian government is currently finalising a biofuel roadmap, targeted for publication next month. The roadmap aims to overcome feedstock supply issues and identify new, emerging resources to meet the biofuel blending targets. This includes the utilisation of coconut oil for biojet fuel and expansion of sugar cane plantation by 700,000 hectares. Dida Gardera, Deputy Minister for Food and Agribusiness at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, recently highlighted the high potential of coconut for bioenergy development. The production will use 20-30 percent of coconuts unsuitable for consumption, which currently goes to waste. This approach offers a more sustainable alternative to existing palm oil-based biojet fuel, which has raised concerns about deforestation. The roadmap is also looking to produce fuel ethanol from other commodities such as seaweed. Acting Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Jisman P. Hutajulu, previously stated that bioenergy plays a crucial role in achieving the target of net-zero emissions (NZE) by 2060. The contribution of the renewable energy sector to the national energy mix is 13.2 percent, with bioenergy currently contributing 7.7 percent or 60 percent of the renewable energy share.Link di fonte: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/risks-opportunities/government-plans-roadmap-for-coconut-based-biojet-fuel/ (ICE GIACARTA)
