Singaporean property investors are increasingly seeking overseas homebuying opportunities, with Australia being the top destination for them, according to data from Juwai IQI Co-Founder and Group CEO Kashif Ansari. The ranking is based on property buyers' enquiries between January 2020 and November 2023. Australia is also the top destination for millionaires, with 5,200 millionaires moving to the country in 2023. Singaporean investors are seeking diversification, taking advantage of Singapore's strong dollar, avoiding higher transaction costs, providing housing for their children studying abroad, or obtaining second homes for retirement and holidays. Australia receives 27.5% of all outbound residential property enquiries from Singapore, largely due to factors such as cultural ties, educational opportunities, a stable real estate market, lifestyle, and proximity. Thailand follows with 16.5%, offering high rental yields and a favourable lifestyle appeal. In the first half of 2023, foreign buyers accounted for 11% of residential transactions, joining others from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Myanmar, and Japan. (ICE BANGKOK)
