Kazakhstan bans vapes - lawThe Majilis, the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament, agreed on Wednesday with additional proposals that the Senate, the upper chamber, earlier made to the Law on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Health Matters.The bill is now adopted by the parliament and will be sent to the president of Kazakhstan for signature.The new law introduces criminal punishment for the distribution and sale of non-smoking tobacco and electronic vapor products, as well as flavors and liquids for them.In May 2023, the head of the board of the National Scientific Medical Center JSC, Doctor of Medical Sciences Abay Baigenzhin, proposed to ban the import and sale of brightly-colored and flavored vaping products in Kazakhstan.The sale of electronic cigarettes which contained nicotine began in 2006 in Kazakhstan, later, in 2017 followed by flavored e-cigarettes, the so-called vapes, came to the market.Baigenzhin believes that vaping could lead to a sharp rise in patients with lung disease in 10 years.
