US-based Wabtec may open an engineering center in KazakhstanWabtec, which is headquartered in the USA, is considering a possibility of opening an engineering center in Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Wednesday.Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu held, during his visit to Washington, a meeting with the leadership of Wabtec.“The sides discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in transport and industrial production, including a possibility of opening the company’s engineering center in Kazakhstan and providing internship for students from Kazakhstan under the Bolashak Scholarship Program,” the press release says.In February 2024, Wabtec acquired a 50% stake in Kazakhstan-based Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty JSC (LKZ) for $81 million to become the sole owner of this plant.Wabtec (Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation) is a Fortune 500 company and global leader in transportation and logistics.
