Kazakhstan, XUAR trade turnover surged by 70% to $20 billion in 2023Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China reached $20 billion in 2023, the press service of the Kazakh government reported, citing Erkin Tuniyaz, Chairman of the People's Government of the XUAR.“Today, trade with Kazakhstan take up 40% in the foreign trade turnover of the XUAR. At the end of 2023, our trade turnover increased by 70% to $20 billion. In two months of 2024, the trade turnover amounted to $3.6 billion, which is 89.5% increase year-over-year”, the Chairman of the People’s Government of the XUAR of China said at an extended bilateral meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin.Zhumangarin said that Kazakhstan would participate in the international exhibition EXPO China - Eurasia and in the III Forum of Interregional Cooperation in Urumqi on June 26, 2024.“Kazakhstan traditionally takes part in it. This time we will increase the area of the pavilion and invite more businessmen, expand the range of products presented,” Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister said.In October 2023, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a visit to the XUAR, noted the republic’s readiness to increase the supply of metallurgical, petrochemical, engineering, food products, as well as construction materials to the region. The head of Kazakhstannoted that the share of XUAR exceeds 40% of the total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China. (ICE ALMATY)
