Kazakhstan to test Chinese water conservation technologies in agricultureDeputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin and Chairman of the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China Erkin Tuniyaz discussed the introduction of water-saving technologies that increase agricultural productivity by 30 - 70%, the press service of the government of Kazakhstan reported. The Chinese side proposed the technologies of Tianye Corporation, one of the 500 largest companies in China. For joint scientific tests on the introduction of water-saving technologies in the southern regions of Kazakhstan, Serik Zhumangarin proposed cooperation with the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center (NANOC), which has extensive land areas. The Chinese company proposed to consider the possibility of opening not only production facilities in Kazakhstan, but also training centers on the use of sprinkler equipment and drip irrigation. In Kazakhstan, it is planned to apply water-saving technologies on up to 50% of irrigated land. So far, they are used only on 16% of irrigated land, the government press service said in a statement.Last year, at the summit of the heads of Central Asia and the People's Republic of China in Xi'an, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called on the leaders of Central Asian countries to implement new technologies in the water sector jointly with China.Due to the growing scarcity of water resources, Kazakhstan is also stimulating the use of water-saving technologies and reducing the area under moisture-loving crops. Thus, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the area under wheat in 2024 will be reduced by approximately 3%, to 13.3 million hectares, cotton - to 100,000 hectares, rice - to 93,900 hectares.
