the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation signed two cooperation agreements worth 60 million euros to support the water and sanitation sector, provided by the German government and the European Union (EU).According to a statement from the ministry, the agreements included a grant from the EU worth 10 million euros to contribute to the project of improving energy efficiency through generating electricity from biogas in sewage treatment plants, supporting the water sector through the German Development Bank (KFW). Also included was a concessional loan worth 50 million euros provided by the German government through the FKW to finance the project of environmentally friendly sewage sludge disposal and climate, Al-Ghad reported.Toukan explained that the project aims to increase energy efficiency in sewage treatment plants, contributing to improving the cost recovery rate for the water sector and climate protection. This will be achieved through the expansion and modernization of sewage treatment plants in south Amman and west Jerash.She expressed profound appreciation for the German government and the EU for the developmental and humanitarian assistance provided to Jordan.Meanwhile, the German Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Niels Annen and the EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavvas highlighted Jordan's pivotal role and its developmental, humanitarian, and reform efforts, reaffirming the EU and Germany's commitment to supporting Jordan in those endeavors.Notably, a bilateral meeting was held with the German State Minister and the accompanying delegation to discuss the possibility of contributing to funding the government's priorities for the next phase within the executive program of the Economic Modernization Vision (EMV)  for 2023-2025 and the roadmap for public sector reform through German developmental assistance allocated to Jordan for the next phase. Discussions also addressed challenges related to financing the priorities of the Jordanian response plan to the Syrian crisis, aimed at sustaining services provided to Syrian refugees in camps and host communities.Touqan emphasized the importance of continuing support to enable Jordan to confront these challenges. This meeting laid the groundwork for the official Jordanian-German negotiations on the Development Cooperation Program for the years 2024/2025, which will be held at the beginning of May.
