Kazakhstan to increase greenhouse gas emissions reduction rate to 2.73% in 2026-2030 - Ministry of EcologyKazakhstan is going to increase greenhouse gas emissions reduction rate to at least 2.73% in 2026-2030, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Erlan Nysanbayev said.He recalled that the National Carbon Quota Plan for 2022-2025 was first approved in 2022 and has been changed once during that time. In February 2024, the annual emission reduction rate was increased from 1.5% to 2.25%, and the rate for 2025 was set at 2.26%.“To meet the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, we plan to provide an annual rate in the next National Carbon Quota Plan for 2026-2030 of at least 2.73%,” Nysanbayev said at a round table in the Majilis.According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Kazakhstan is committed to implementing the provisions of the Paris Agreement, having accepted obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15% from 1990 levels in the amount of about 370 million tonnes of CO2 to 325 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030.
