250 billion tenge to be invested in Khorgos airport constructionThe Kazakh-German project for the construction of an airport in the free economic zone (FEZ) Khorgos - Eastern Gate will attract 250 billion tenge of investment, the press service of the Zhetysu region akimat reported following a meeting of the head of the region Beibit Isabayev with the investors.The project will be implemented in three stages. During the first stage, it is planned to build the entire basic infrastructure of the airport, in the second and third stages - to complete additional infrastructure, expand the capacity of the passenger terminal, and of cargo and fuel warehouses.The airport itself is scheduled to begin operations in 2027. The project, including all the necessary infrastructure, as well as a phased expansion, increase in production capacity, a hotel, shopping and entertainment center, is planned to be fully completed by 2032.The aircraft will use modern Jet A-1 fuel.As reported, in September 2023, the management of the special economic zone (SEZ) Khorgos - Eastern Gate (Kazakhstan), Skymax Technologies Group LLP and The Hansa Consortium (Germany) signed a memorandum of cooperation in the construction of an aviation cargo hub.In 2017, the implementation of a cargo-passenger airport project was launched on the territory adjacent to the SEZ; 754 hectares of land were reserved for this purpose.The Hansa Consortium specializes in projects for the development of air terminals, aviation infrastructure, and the construction of fuel complexes. The consortium participated in modernization of international airports in the Russian Federation, Iraq, Pakistan, and in the construction of fuel complexes in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and the Philippines.SEZ Khorgos - Eastern Gate is located on the border with China in the Zhetysu region (until June 2022 - in the Almaty region) along the route of the Western Europe - Western China highway.
