Mobile device attacks triple in Kazakhstan in first two months -  Kaspersky LabThe number of attacks on mobile devices in Kazakhstan surged in the first two months of 2024, nearly tripling compared to the same period last year, according to a report released by Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of information security solutions, on Monday. The report highlights that "the most prevalent type of mobile threat observed is adware targeting gamers, specifically offering clandestine advertising within Minecraft mods.”According to a report from Kaspersky Lab, adware ranked among the most prevalent types of mobile threats worldwide in 2023, constituting 40.8% of all detections by the company's solutions."Adware, characterized by pop-up windows with unwanted advertisements, poses a significant risk to users. Often infiltrating devices through third-party malware such as malicious downloaders or droppers, adware typically conceals its icon, making it challenging to uninstall. In some cases, like hidden advertising in Minecraft mods, ads are displayed in invisible background windows, draining device battery power and consuming traffic,” according to the report.Valery Zubanov, the managing director of Kaspersky Lab in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and Mongolia, cautioned that mobile device users also face other risks, such as fake investment resources used by attackers to gather user data through social engineering tactics. In 2023, fake scam investment applications like Fakemoney, mimicking large oil and gas company apps, were the most common mobile threat in Kazakhstan. (ICE ALMATY)
