The adoption of smart electricity metering is occuring at a rapid pace in India. The Smart Meter National Programme aims to install 250 million smart meters across the country by 2025. This new scheme was introduced by the government in July 2021 with the objectives of improving the financial and operational efficiencies of distribution companies, including reducing the aggregate technical and commercial losses to 12-15% by the end of its target timeline.
