Kazakhstan to boost housing construction by 10% in 2024It is planned to boost housing construction by almost 10% to 172,000 dwellings in 2024, the press service of the head of state said, citing Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapayev.On Monday the head of the Ministry of Industry reported to the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the work results and plans in the areas of industrial development, geology, subsoil use and construction.“The head of state was informed that last year 157,000 dwellings were built, while this year the planned number is 172,000 dwellings. More than 300 billion tenge will be allocated for the construction of 22,000 rental apartments. The financing program will be launched through Otbasy Bank, enabling to provide citizens with 12,000 mortgage loans,” the press release says.Earlier, the Minister of Industry stated that a new mortgage lending program would start in Kazakhstan on May 1, 2024. The rate for socially vulnerable groups of the population will not exceed 7%. 300 billion tenge will be allocated for the implementation of the program through Otbasy Bank.As reported, in March of this year, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the government of Kazakhstan to develop a new housing program, including for village residents, in addition to theexisting Otau program. For socially vulnerable categories, the loan rate should not exceed 7%.At the same time, the President instructed the government to significantly increase the volume of rental housing with the right to purchase. According to Tokayev, the launch of a new preferential mortgage program and large-scale construction of rental housing will revive the construction sector and help many people in need to purchase housing.
