Central Asia Metals reduce copper production in Kazakhstan by 6.5% in Q1 2024Central Asia Metals plc (CAML) produced 3,120 tonnes of copper at the Kounrad project in Kazakhstan in January-March 2024, the company reported.In the first quarter of 2023, 3,336 tonnes of copper were mined at the Kounrad project. Thus, last year production fell by 6.5%.The output of zinc in concentrate at the Sasa deposit in Macedonia went down 3.6%, to 4,741 tonnes. Production of lead in concentrate decreased by 1.3%, to 6,529 tonnes.Nigel Robinson, CEO, commented: "We had a strong, incident-free start to 2024 and a stable first quarter of production at both sites, despite challenging winter weather conditions and ongoing construction activity at the Sasa site. We have made significant progress in completing the necessary infrastructure to move into production using a paste backfill and continue development in the second half of 2024,” the head of the company, Nigel Robinson, is quoted as saying in the press release.The company also announced its intention to invest up to £5 million in Scottish copper and nickel exploration company Aberdeen Minerals.According to the company, the copper production forecast for 2024 is 13,000-14,000 tonnes, zinc in concentrate – 19,000-21,000 tonnes, lead in concentrate – 27,000-29,000 tonnes.Central Asia Metals is a British company based in London. CAML owns 100% of the Kounrad copper project in Kazakhstan and 100% of the Sasa zinc-lead mine in North Macedonia.The company's shareholders include Blackrock Investment (7.23%), JO Hambro Capital Management (7.74%), Fidelity International (9.65%), Hargreaves Lansdown (5.69%), Polar Capital (4.46 %), JPMorgan Asset Management (3.35%) and others.CAML securities have been traded on the AIM platform of the London Stock Exchange since 2010.
