National Bank of Kazakhstan to lower base rate on Friday- financial analystsThe Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the National Bank of Kazakhstan will make its next decision on the base rate on April 12.Most analysts interviewed by the Interfax-Kazakhstan agency believe that the monetary regulator will reduce the base rate from 25 bp (basis point) to 50 bp. Two of the analysts believe that the macro regulator will keep the base rate at the current level of 14.75%.Freedom Finance Global expects the National Bank to lower the rate by another 25 bp, to 14.5%.General Director of DAMU Capital Management Murat Kastayev expects a reduction in the base rate by 0.5 pp (percentage point), to 14.25%.Jusan Analytics analyst Elena Ten believes that the National Bank will reduce the base rate, but does not specify by how much.Experts from the analytical center of the Association of Financiers of Kazakhstan (AFK) believe that the regulator will postpone the reduction of the base rate.They also noted that, according to the April AFK survey, the majority of financial market experts surveyed (63%) at the end of tomorrow’s National Bank meeting expect the base rate to be maintained, while the remaining 37% see the potential for its further reduction in the range of 14.5-14.25%.As reported, in February the National Bank decided to reduce the base rate by 50 bp. - to 14.75% per annum with a corridor of +/-1 pp.The next planned decision on the base rate will be announced on April 12, 2024 at 12:00 Astana time.
