TAIWAN RECORDS NT$1.35 TRILLION IN MARCH EXPORTS March export figures represent 5th straight month of year-on-year growth

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) —Taiwan’s March exports grew 18.9% compared to a year earlier, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) reported on Wednesday (April 10).Exports totaled NT$1.35 trillion (US$41.82 billion) in March, according to MOF. The ministry said March export figures represented the fifth straight month of year-on-year growth, according to CNA.March imports totaled US$33.14 billion, representing a 7.1% increase from a year prior, leaving a trade surplus of US$8.68 billion, up 104.5% year-over-year. Meanwhile, exports for the first quarter totaled US$110.33 billion, representing a 12.9% year-over-year increase. First-quarter imports totaled US$91.38 billion, up 3% from a year prior. This left Taiwan with a Q1 trade surplus of US$18.95 billion, up 111.4% year-on-year. Looking at major sectors, electronics exports totaled US$14.70 billion in March, down 5.5% year-over-year. Information, communications, and audio-video exports grew 165% year-over-year to US$12.65 billion. In terms of destinations, exports to China and Hong Kong totaled US$12.72 billion, down 1.3% from a year earlier. March exports to the U.S. totaled US$9.12 billion, up 65.7% year-over-year. Exports to ASEAN countries were US$8.90 billion in March, up 47.1% from a year prior.
