President cancels Astana International Forum to redirect funds for flood reliefPresident Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has decided to cancel the Astana International Forum, scheduled for June 13-14 to reallocate resources to address the severe flooding and provide aid to affected citizens in this challenging time.“Due to the severe flooding in Kazakhstan and the need to redirect financial resources to address widespread destruction and assist citizens, I've chosen to cancel this year's Astana International Forum scheduled for June 13-14," President Tokayev posted on X network on Saturday.The president expressed hope for understanding from the participants who were invited to the event, highlighting that "the Astana International Forum will resume its activities in 2025."The Astana International Forum serves as a platform for global dialogue, aiming to foster collaboration in addressing critical global issues. Initiated by Kazakhstan, the Forum brings together high-level representatives from governments, international organizations, businesses, and academia to discuss and devise solutions to pressing challenges such as climate change, food security, and energy sustainability.Kazakhstan is currently experiencing severe spring floods, the worst seen in the last 80 years.
