Freight turnover in Kazakhstan fell 2.9% in first three monthsIn Kazakhstan, the freight turnover for January-March 2024 fell 2.9% compared to Jan-March 2023, totaling 120.3 billion ton-kilometers (t/km), according to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms.During this period, rail freight turnover saw a 7.4% decrease, amounting to 75.9 billion t/km. Freight turnover by motor vehicles increased by 12.9% to reach 6.681 million t/km, while pipeline transportation saw a 3.9% increase, totaling 37.3 t/km year-on-year.Data for the first two months (January-February 2024) revealed a 290% surge in cargo transported by sea, reaching 256.4 million tonnes/km.Passenger traffic grew 8.8% in January-March 2024, totaling 18.2 billion passenger-kilometers compared to the same period last year.
