INDONESIA CREATES REGULATION TO SUPPORT QUALITY TOURISM ECOSYSTEM

The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment is creating a regulation on the Quality Tourism Endowment Fund, a collaborative effort involving various ministries and institutions. “This is aimed at creating a quality tourism ecosystem,” said Odo R.M. Manuhutu, the ministry's Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy, on Monday. He said that the quality tourism ecosystem is based on four pillars: competitiveness of basic infrastructure, sustainable tourism management, unique destinations, and high-value tourism services. One of the concrete steps for realizing quality tourism is environmental conservation through the rehabilitation of mangrove forests, which have a large capacity to absorb carbon dioxide. He noted that the discourse on developing quality tourism through the active participation of related parties is still in the stage of initial study as well as discussions involving various sectors. He also spoke about efforts to develop quality tourism through the Proud to Travel in Indonesia (BBWI) movement, which is aimed at increasing people's consumption of domestic tourism products. Through the movement, the government set a target of domestic tourist movements of up to 1.5 billion in 2024, with a potential tourism income of around Rp3,000 trillion (around US$1.84 billion).
