 Employer of industrial climbers who perished at construction site in Astana sentenced to four years in prison The Interdistrict Criminal Court of Astana sentenced an individual entrepreneur, through whose fault three industrial climbers fell from a height and died, to four years in prison, the court announced on Saturday.The employer was found guilty of violating safety rules for construction work, which resulted in the death of three people and causing grievous harm to health (Article 277 Part 3 of the Criminal Code).“Taking into account mitigating circumstances (the presence of a young child - IF-K), the court found Sh. guilty under Article 277 Part 3 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to imprisonment for a period of four years with deprivation of the right to occupy leadership positions in the field of construction and installation work for a period of three years,” the court said in a statement.In addition, 5 million tenge and 10 million tenge for moral damage were recovered from the convicted person in favor of the victims.According to the court, the contractor, an individual entrepreneur, being the person responsible for ensuring safe work conditions and labor protection, violated the safety rules for conducting construction work, by failing to check the technical condition and serviceability of the support cable and the fastening points of the safety cables of industrial climbers, who carried out construction and installation work on height at residential complex. As a result, on October 12, 2023, four industrial climbers fell from a height, three of them died. (ICE ALMATY)
