Kazakhstan boosts road transport to Europe, secures additional permit from Baltic StatesKazakhstan secured additional permit forms from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia to assist domestic carriers who specialize in international freight road transport."In the current circumstances, there has been a significant rise in the demand for permit forms by Kazakh carriers from European countries. Over 70% of the permit forms received from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have already been allocated to Kazakh carriers. Consequently, during a recent trip abroad, an agreement was reached to provide additional permit forms to Kazakhstan. Specifically, Latvia will provide 6,000 units, Estonia 800 units, and Lithuania 3,000 units," Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev said.The total number of permit forms for road transport with these countries is nearing a record 29,000 units for 2024. "The increase in permit forms will boost trade turnover between Kazakhstan and European countries while reducing transportation costs," Karabayev said.The Ministry of Transport is exploring measures to expedite the passage of Kazakh vehicles at borders. Discussions include the possibility of establishing a Kazakh representative office at the Latvian border to facilitate the swift passage of Kazakh transport through checkpoints.Kazakhstan earlier proposed cooperation with Lithuania to launch container transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Additionally, during a meeting of the Kazakh-Lithuanian joint commission on international road transport in March, an agreement was reached on the quota of permits for 2024. (ICE ALMATY)
