Kazakhstan Senate passes law on production and distribution of organic productsThe Senate of Kazakhstan's Parliament passed the law "On the production and distribution of organic products" during a plenary meeting on Thursday."This law aims to enhance regulations concerning organic product production and circulation, fostering the growth of the domestic organic market and promoting competitiveness in foreign markets," Senator Arman Utegulov, a member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Environmental Management, and Rural Development, said.Key provisions include guidelines for transitioning to organic production, production requirements, labeling standards, and the importation of organic products. The law also mandates the establishment of registries for organic producers, agricultural seeds, and animals used in organic production.Additionally, it allows for the certification of organic production based on various standards, excluding the final product from certification.Accompanying bills were also approved, including amendments to existing legislation and the introduction of state support measures such as subsidies for certification costs and organic fertilizers, with a 50% subsidy for the cost of conformity certificates and subsidies for organic fertilizers effective from January 1, 2028.Furthermore, amendments to the Administrative Offenses Code introduce penalties for violations related to organic product circulation, expanding the scope of administrative responsibility in this area.
