Kazakhstan reviews Azerbaijan's proposal to use Baku-Supsa oil pipelineKazakhstan is studying Azerbaijan's proposal to use the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline; supplies will depend on commercial conditions, the Kazakh Embassy in Baku reported.The issue was discussed at a meeting between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel and the President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovshan Najaf at the end of last week.“Currently, the parties are exploring the possibilities of further increasing volumes. Kazakhstan is also studying Azerbaijan’s proposal to use the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline. Supplies in this direction will depend on commercial conditions,” the information says.During the meeting, Bayel recalled that in 2023, supplies of Kazakh oil began through the territory of Azerbaijan via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. In 2023, 1.57 million tonnes of Kazakh oil were shipped from the port of Aktau in the direction of Azerbaijan for subsequent export via the BTC.At the meeting, the prospects for further cooperation in the oil and gas sector were discussed.“In particular, the Azerbaijani side is showing interest and is considering the possibility of investing in Kazakh oil fields,” the statement says.In turn, the KazTransOil company reported that the shipment of Kazakh oil from the Tengiz field to Azerbaijan for export via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline amounted to 490,000 tonnes in January-April 2024.By the end of 2024, KazTransOil JSC plans to export up to 1.5 million tonnes of oil from Tengiz via the BTC.
