KAZAKHSTAN-SANCTIONS-IMPACT

Kazakhstan to look into possible impact of EU sanctions on agricultural products from Russia and BelarusKazakhstan will assess a possible impact of the duties that the European Union (EU) imposed on agricultural products from Russia and Belarus, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin said."The European Union imposed import duties on Russian and Belarusian wheat, which is an extraordinary measure. Now we need to understand whether it will affect Kazakhstan, as we export a lot of wheat to the European Union," Zhumangarin told journalists on the sidelines of a Wednesday meeting of the Majilis, the lower chamber of Kazakhstan’s parliament. The sanctions that Western countries have imposed on Russia and Belarus also greatly affect Kazakhstan, he added."In reality, many of the logistics and supply chains have been disrupted because of this. We are not members of any coalition and do not support the unilateral sanctions policy, but we will comply with it because of economic benefits we gain. Our economy is very small and we wouldn’t be able to resist the pressure of sanctions," Zhumangarin said.Zhumangarin said that the Kazakh government is always in contact with the US and EU authorities."This is painstaking work. Owing to its foreign policy, Kazakhstan is capable of a proactive response. We are always informed about measures that will be taken against certain companies," he said. (ICE ALMATY)
