A NEW HORIZON FOR CLOSER INDONESIA-ITALY RELATIONS
Indonesia and Italy celebrate 75 years of strong bilateral relations. The two countries cooperate in many fields, with Italy being Indonesia's key EU partner. Trade and investment, notably in energy, automobiles, and infrastructure, are mutual issues. The two G20 members' strategic cooperation in numerous industries has increased due to Indonesia's open and robust economy.The two G20 members can collaborate more strategically in key sectors due to Indonesia's open and dynamic economy. Defense industry and strategic sector cooperation should provide new prospects for technology transfer, capacity-building, and best practices. One potential area is palm oil, in which Italy could play an important role in ensuring fair treatment and ending discrimination against Indonesia’s primary commodity.Italy and ASEAN members, particularly Indonesia, are committed to executing an improved, deeper, and mutually beneficial ASEAN-Italy Development Partnership. Since June 2022, ASEAN and Italy have worked together to institutionalize and fund development projects in cultural heritage and sustainable development goals (SDGs), agriculture mechanization, cybersecurity, sustainable coastal and maritime development, environmental protection, geothermal, fishing gear recycling, as well as space and smart technology.
