IMF ADVISES LITHUANIA TO EXPAND CORPORATE, REAL ESTATE TAXATION, REMOVE SOME TAX
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) concludes its nearly two-week visit to Vilnius, advising Lithuania to undertake structural reforms, particularly in the pension system due to population aging. IMF mission chief Borja Gracia suggests broadening the tax base by increasing corporate income tax, expanding real estate and pollution taxation, and eliminating certain tax breaks to bolster revenue collection. Despite challenges such as an aging population and defense spending, the IMF expects Lithuania's economy to grow by 2.4% in 2024, revising upward its earlier forecast. (ICE VARSAVIA)
