UCE RESEARCH: RETAIL PRICE ANALYSIS FOR MAY THIS YEAR.
Analysis of over 68.4 thousand retail prices showed that in May this year everyday purchases in stores became more expensive on average by 2.9% year on year. The results from the last three months clearly show that the acceleration in the dynamics of price increases has returned.Moreover, this time more categories showed single-digit YoY growth than in April or March, twelve out of seventeen monitored. The prices of sweets and desserts increased the most, by 12.9% y/y. In the TOP5, prices of household chemicals are also visible, with a y/y increase at the level of 9.7%, non-alcoholic drinks – 6.3%, food additives – 5.9%, and bread – 4.9% y/y. The above data also shows that the return of VAT on food has become a fact.The categories that are becoming more expensive include also: products for children with an average increase of 4.2% y/y. Next on the list are personal care products with y/y growth by 3.1%, and then stimulants (i.e. tea, coffee, beer, vodka) with a y/y increase at the level of 2.6%. The prices of fruit also increased slightly - by 2.2%, meat - by 1.9%, cold cuts - by 1.2%, dairy products - by 1%, and fish - by 0.5%. (ICE VARSAVIA)
