Kazakhstan sees 4.3% drop in vehicle production from January to May 2024Vehicle production in Kazakhstan from January to May 2024 totaled 55,985 units, marking a 4.3% decrease compared to the previous year, according to the Kazakhstan Automobile Union.The total value of vehicles manufactured during this period amounted to 720.4 billion tenge."The decline in production is attributed to the impact of grey imports. Monthly sales also saw a downturn, with May alone witnessing a 9.7% decrease, prompting anticipated adjustments in production orders for the coming months. Issues related to uncontrolled imports of old and legally questionable vehicles from the EAEU and third countries have already affected the market. Grey and quasi-criminal importers sell illicit vehicles to consumers, impacting both manufacturers and tax-paying importers," stated Anar Makasheva, President of the Automobile Union, as quoted in the press release.Key production highlights include 35,549 vehicles from Allur in Kostanay (up by 0.6%), 16,700 from Hyundai in Almaty (down by 15.2%), 2,065from SemAZ and Daewoo Bus in Semey (up by 13.8%), 525 from QazTehna in the Karaganda region (up by 45%), and 360 from KAMAZ Engineering in Kokshetau (down by 17.6%). Other regions contributed 756 vehicles.The top five brands by production were Hyundai (16,551), Chevrolet (12,776), Kia (11,384), Jac (6,030), and Jetour (4,649).
