The Lebanese Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade (MoET) recently met with the Head of the IraqiNational Investment Authority along with Engineers from the Iraqi Oil Pipelines Company and Specialists inTelecom, IT and legal advisory. The meeting came as part of the Lebanese Caretaker MoET’s role as head ofthe Lebanese side of the Lebanese-Iraqi Joint Committee. The meeting focused on discussing the projectto rehabilitate the existing oil pipelines between Lebanon and Syria with investment funding from the Iraqiside while safeguarding the sovereignty of both countries and working on extending an Arab fiber opticscommunications network.  According to the Head of the Iraqi National Investment Authority, support from the Lebanese Ministry of  Economy is required in following up with the file due to its economic benefit to Lebanon and the widerregion in the future. Additionally, in order for the project to succeed, the Lebanese Government andParliament need to work on issuing the necessary laws and decrees allowing the Iraqi National InvestmentAuthority to use the necessary lands in order to complete the project while preserving Lebanon’s sovereignrights.
