MAEK, China Huadian Corporation Ltd. to construct combined cycle plant for energy production in AktauMAEK LLP and Chinese China Huadian Corporation Ltd. represented by Huadian Kazakhstan Energy, signed a founding agreement for the creation of a joint venture (JV), which formalizes the intention to build a combined cycle power plant in the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan, the press service of NC KAZAKH INVEST JSC reported.It is noted that the Chinese State Bank is ready to provide financing for this project for up to 15-25 years at a rate below 5%.Earlier in 2023, during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the PRC, a framework agreement on investment cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Qazaqstan Investment Corporation JSC and China Huadian Overseas Investment. The document provides for the construction of a combined cycle gas plant with a capacity of 150 MW. It was noted that the commissioning of this installation is expected within the next four years and will help solve the problem of electricity shortages in the region.
