KUWAIT GAS PIPELINE ALLOCATED $98M BUDGET
The planned project to develop a gas pipeline and conduct associated mechanical works as part of a scheme to gather gas from Kuwait’s Jurassic gas fields has been allocated a budget of about KD30m ($98m).Projects tendered recently by the state-owned upstream operator Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).Contractors are preparing to attend a pre-tender meeting for the project on 30 July. The bid submission deadline for this project is 29 September 2024.The project’s scope includes developing off-plot works to help gather gas from Kuwait’s Jurassic gas fields and developing a 16-inch feed trunk line from the Umm Niqa area.Kuwait is in the midst of an upstream project push as it aims to produce 4 million barrels a day (b/d) of oil by 2035.Production capacity currently stands at about 2.9 million b/d, and the country aims to reach 3.2 million by 2025 or 2026.Kuwait is developing a large project plan that will be published in the coming months and will consist of several major schemes. All of the projects on the list are planned to have contracts awarded before the country’s suspension of its parliament has ended. On 10 May, Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, announced the indefinite suspension of parliament in a televised speech.Under Kuwaiti law, parliament can be suspended for a maximum of four years. The new list of planned projects is expected to include upstream and downstream projects, as well as petrochemicals facilities.Prior to the suspension of Kuwait’s parliament, the country suffered from very low levels of project awards for several years due to political gridlock and infighting between the country’s cabinet and parliament.
