POLAND AMONG TOP CONSUMERS OF E-CIGARETTES
Poland is among the highest users of e-cigarettes, spending USD 2.27 million in 2023, most of which are Chinese single-use units, Market Monitoring Centre (CMR) data shows. Polish Experts from the Society of Advancement of Medicine (PTPM)- Medicine of the XXI century, based on the survey of a group of 16-17-year-olds, say that the age when people start smoking heated tobacco products and vaping has dropped.Seventy-five percent of those who try tobacco products for the first time are under the age of 15. Many of them start with e-cigarettes, the use of which among that age group is three times higher than smoking traditional cigarettes, Krzysztof J. Filipiak, cardiologist, internist, and pharmacologist told PAP on Monday. He also added the government's age-checking restrictions do not work as cigarettes are freely purchased and Chinese products have flooded the market. In Poland, the growth of the e-cigarette import market rose to 5.5 percent in one year, more than in Germany (2.2 pct), Czechia (4.3 pct), and Slovakia (5.0 pct). From the data provided by the World Health Organization and Children's Rights Advocate, it is clear that Poland is one of the countries with the highest percentage of teenagers who use tobacco products.
