KAZAKHSTAN-AZERBAIJAN-OIL-COOPERATION
Kazakhstan ships over 700,000 tonnes of Tengiz oil via BTC Pipeline in H1In the first half of 2024, Kazakhstan delivered over 700,000 tonnes of oil from the Tengiz field to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, according to KazMunayGas (KMG).During a visit to Baku from July 24-26, KMG CEO Askat Khasenov met with Rovshan Najaf, President of Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR, to discuss key cooperation issues."In 2023, 1.057 million tonnes of oil were shipped from the port of Aktau, with over 700,000 tonnes shipped in the first half of this year," KMG reported.Khasenov emphasized "KMG's commitment to expanding this export route and exploring increased shipments via the Trans-Caspian route with its partners."The meeting also addressed cooperation on decarbonization.During his stay in Baku, Khasenov visited the BP Sangachal and Azertrans terminals involved in transporting Kazakh oil and boarded the Kazakh tanker Aktau to meet the crew.In 2022, Kazakhstan's President ordered an increase in oil transport via the Trans-Caspian corridor. KMG and SOCAR agreed to send 1.5 million tonnes of Tengiz oil annually to Baku for further transport via the BTC pipeline, aiming to boost Trans-Caspian route shipments to 3 million tonnes within two years.
