INDONESIA TO CREATE EV BATTERY RESEARCH CENTER IN MOROWALI
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said Indonesia will create an electric vehicle (EV) battery research center in Morowali, Central Sulawesi. Luhut added that Indonesia has also built an electric motorcycle and electric car battery recycling industry in Morowali. According to him, recycling EV batteries is an important part of building a green industry. Chairman of the National Council for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Airlangga Hartarto said that the SEZ in Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province is engaged in the downstream nickel sector based on green industry. This SEZ has an investment target until it is fully operational of IDR135,38 trillion (around US$8,3 million) with a workforce absorption of around 136,000 people. The SEZ is engaged in the production and processing of nickel with the advantage of using Steam Gas Power Plants (PTLGU), Fully Enclosed Submerged Electric Furnace technology, recycling of High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) tailings waste, downstreaming of Nickel Matte and Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) to become precursors for electric car batteries, as well as raw water supply with the construction of reservoirs and dams.https://www.antaranews.com/berita/4223447/menko-luhut-indonesia-akan-buat-pusat-riset-baterai-ev-di-morowali (ICE GIACARTA)
