WEAK SALES OF BREWERIES. ONLY NON-ALCOHOLIC BEERS SAVED THE MARKET FROM THE WORS

Good weather, a favorable arrangement of long weekends and the European Football Championship did not help the beer market to recover. According to an analysis by the Association of Employers of the Brewing Industry – Polish Breweries, the first half of 2024 brought a further decline in sales of alcoholic beers and only non-alcoholic beers saved the entire market from falling into the red.According to preliminary data from the Association of Brewing Industry Employers – Polish Breweries, the market in the first half of the year is oscillating around zero in terms of sales dynamics compared to the same period last year.It is worth noting that alcoholic beers were in the red (almost -1%), while 0.0% beers recorded double-digit growth (over 16%).The beer market has shrunk by around 6 million hectoliters over the past 5 years, with the deepest decline occurring in 2023 (-7% or 2.2 million hl of beer less). According to the industry, this is a consequence of high inflation in production costs and increases in excise duty, which have translated into higher average beer prices and reduced demand. The increase in household maintenance costs has also led to a reduction in consumer spending, especially on non-essential products, including beer. (ICE VARSAVIA)
