ROSHN TO DEVELOP DAMMAM STADIUM WITH ARAMCO
The Public Investment Fund (PIF)-backed gigaproject developer Roshn has announced that it is developing the football stadium in Dammam in collaboration with Saudi Aramco. The stadium is under construction and is expected to be completed by 2026. The stadium, which can accommodate 47,000 spectators, and the surrounding masterplan will be built over an area of about 800,000 square metres (sq m). The facility will be used to host international tournaments such as the 2027 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup and the 2034 Fifa World Cup. The new stadium is located in the Dammam Sports City area, where the facilities of the Ettifaq FC and Al-Nahda Club teams are located. UK-based architectural firm Foster + Partners is the project consultant. In February,Aramco had selected a joint venture of Belgian contractor Besix and local Albawani for an estimated $1bn contract to build a new football stadium in Dammam. The announcement by Roshn follows its statement earlier this week about its plans to build a new stadium in Riyadh. The planned facility will have the capacity to accommodate 45,000 spectators and will span an area of over 450,000 sq m. Roshn did not reveal the exact location, but said the stadium will be built in the southwest of Riyadh. Saudi Arabia has revealed that it plans to construct 11 new stadiums as part of its bid to host the Fifa World Cup 2034. Eight of the 15 stadiums are located in Riyadh, four in Jeddah and one each in Al-Khobar, Abha and Neom. Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia officially submitted its bid book to Fifa to host the World Cup 2034 event at a ceremony hosted by Fifa in Paris, France. According to the official bid book document, eight of these stadiums are in the planning stage, four will be refurbished and expanded to meet the hosting criteria, and three are already under construction.
