Kashagan GPP with design capacity of 1 bln cubic meters to be launched in mid-2026The gas processing plant at the Kashagan field with a design capacity of about 1 billion cubic meters per year will be launched in mid-2026, Berik Abishev, acting head of GPC Investment LLP (implementing the GPP construction project) said."The infrastructure around the plant is ready. Our project will be launched in mid-2026," Abishev is quoted as saying by the government press service.According to the information, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov made a working visit to the Atyrau region, where he got acquainted with the development of the region's industry."To date, construction and installation work is 11% complete, while the overall readiness of the facility has reached 23%," the information says.The head of government instructed to accelerate the construction. The Prime Minister was also informed about the plans of North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) to implement a pipeline construction project for transportation of raw materials from the Kashagan field to GPP. NCOC in cooperation with QazaqGaz, will supply up to 700,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas per year to the market and will complete the construction of a pipeline infrastructure that will ensure the transportation of 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The Phase 2A project will provide for the transportation of 2.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, and Phase 2B of 6 billion cubic meters per year.In February 2024, the national company "QazaqGaz" and Qatar's UCC Holding signed an agreement on the joint implementation of projects for the construction of gas processing plants at the Kashagan field.It was later reported that the investment volume in the construction of this gas processing plant at Kashagan is estimated at $1 billion.In September 2023, the operator of the Kashagan field, North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), began construction of a gas pipeline to the future gas processing plant (GPP) of the Kazakh state company QazaqGaz, to transport 1 billion cubic meters of gas to the GPP annually.The length of the gas pipeline, laid from the Bolashak oil and gas processing plant to the GPP, will be about 15 km.Kashagan is the first offshore oil and gas field in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as the largest international investment project in the country. Its recoverable reserves range from 9 billion to 13 billion barrels of oil. Commercial production there began on November 1, 2016. In 2022, Kashagan produced 12.7 million tonnes of oil, and in 2023, a record 18.8 million tonnes. (ICE ALMATY)
