Central Asian trade can grow to $20 bln - Tajik president Tajik President Emomali Rahmon highlighted the further expansion of trade and economic relations in his speech at the Sixth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Astana, the Tajik presidential press service said."Regional trade has grown over 80% to more than $10 billion over the past five years. If the available potential is used effectively, regional trade may reach $20 billion in the near future," Rahmon said.He called for elaborating separate programs for agriculture, industries, the introduction of high technologies, the implementation of large transport, infrastructure and logistic projects, the effective use of hydropower resources, and cultural and humanitarian interaction.Swift global changes require the elaboration of a common vision of the future by Central Asia, he said.Tajikistan proposes holding the first meeting of Central Asian industry ministers in Dushanbe next year, Rahmon said, adding that an annual Expo - Central Asia would be useful.He described closer cooperation in e-commerce, digital technologies and energy, especially green energy, as key factors in the green economy's development in the region.Given the growing global threats and challenges, Rahmon proposed elaborating new, effective forms of security cooperation and said it would be necessary to develop mechanisms for close interaction between law enforcement agencies.
