THORCON POWER SUBMITS PROPOSAL FOR INDONESIA’S FIRST NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

ThorCon Power Indonesia, a subsidiary of US-based ThorCon, has submitted a proposal to the National Energy Council to develop the country’s first nuclear power plant on Thursday (15/8). The proposal was prepared in collaboration with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Gadjah Mada University, and PT PLN Enjiniring. Secretary-General of the National Energy Council (DEN), Djoko Siswanto, highlighted the project's strategic importance, aligning with recent nuclear energy discussions led by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan. Agus Puji Prasetyono, another DEN official, stressed the need to expedite the required documentation to meet the 2032 electricity transmission target, addressing a potential 2 GW deficit in Java by 2034. ThorCon Power is set to build the 2×250 MW plant without state funding, targeting commercial operations by 2030 on Kelasa Island, Bangka Belitung. The company also plans to add 3,500 MW by 2035. ThorCon’s pricing could cut electricity subsidies by up to EUR 5.6 billion by 2030. The proposal aims to establish a foundation for Indonesia’s nuclear power industry and position ThorCon as a key player in this sector. https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/risks-opportunities/thorcon-power-indonesia-submits-proposal-for-indonesias-first-nuclear-power-plant/ (ICE GIACARTA)
