RIYADH CONFIRMS ROAD DEVELOPMENT CONTRACT AWARDS

Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has confirmed that it has awarded four contracts worth $3.46 bn as part of the first phase of the programme to develop the city’s road network. RCRC said that the programme’s first phase will develop the axis of the main and ring roads to improve traffic movement in the city.  RCRC said that the first project involves the construction of the second southern ring road, which will be 56 kilometres long and run from the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to the Jeddah Road in the west. The project includes four lanes for the main road in each direction and three lanes for the service road in each direction. It also includes the implementation of 10 main intersections and the construction of 32 bridges. In June, RCRC had awarded an estimated  $2bn of contracts for the construction of ring roads stretching over 50km around Riyadh. The first contract was awarded to local firm Saudi Pan Kingdom (Sapac) and is worth about $1.2bn. The contract scope covers the construction works on the second southern ring road, phases one and two, spanning over 30km. The other estimated $800m contract was awarded to the team of Al-Ayuni Investment & Contracting and China Harbour Engineering Company. The scope of that contract includes the construction works on the second southern ring road, phase three, which covers over 20km. The second project confirmed by RCRC is an $1bn design-and-build contract awarded for the upgrade of the Wadi Laban cable bridge in Riyadh. in June the contract was awarded to the joint venture of Turkish contracting firm IC Ictas and Riyadh-based Al-Rashid Trading & Contracting Company. The planned project aims to ease traffic congestion around the western ring road in the area extending from Ibn-Hazm Road to Jeddah Road. The contract also covers the construction of an intersection at Jeddah Road. The third project involves developing the western part of the Al-Thumama Road Axis, which is 6km long and extends from King Khalid Road in the west to King Fahd Road in the east. The fourth road project confirmed by RCRC extends from Taif Road in the Laban neighbourhood to the Qiddiya project. The package has a total length of 16 kilometres.   Planning for growth The RCRC’s major projects include Riyadh Metro, Riyadh Art, Sports Boulevard, King Salman International Park, Green Riyadh and the Diriyah Gate project. In November last year, Riyadh was selected to host the Expo 2030 event. Saudi Arabia plans to invest $7.8bn in Expo 2030. The figure was revealed in June last year in Paris at the 172nd general assembly of the expo organising body, the Bureau International des Expositions.   For registration as supplier for the Royal commission for riyadh city (RCRC): https://tenders.rcrc.gov.sa/en (ICE RIYADH)
