Tajikistan's industrial production up 11.5%, agricultural production 9.6% in H1 2024 YoY - president Tajikistan's industrial production grew 11.5% and agricultural production 9.6% in the first half of 2024 year on year, the presidential press service quoted President Emomali Rahmon as saying at a government meeting.Owing to the government's constructive and consistent steps, Tajikistan retained a positive trend in its economic development in the first half of the year, and production in most of the real sectors continued to grow, Rahmon said.Tajikistan's GDP reached 61.7 billion somoni (around $5.7 billion) in January-June 2024, and its real growth was 8.2% compared to the same period last year, he said.The national economy grew in this period largely owing to growing industrial production, agriculture, and investments in fixed assets, which increased by 15.7%, Rahmon said.Tajikistan's foreign trade increased by 29.3%, including exports by 47.1%; cargo transportation grew by 13.8% and passenger transportation by 9%, he said.The state budget revenues amounted to 21.7 billion somoni, or 1.5 billion somoni (7.9%) above the target, he said.Inflation in Tajikistan in January-June was 1.9%, he said.At the same time, Rahmon instructed ministries and other government agencies, local executive government bodies, enterprises, institutions, and organizations to intensify the implementation of government strategies and programs, as well as anti-crisis measures, taking into account the negative impact of external factors, especially geopolitical conflicts, sanctions, trade wars, and climate change.To maintain Tajikistan's sustainable development and ensure the stability of its national economy, he also instructed government institutions to take more vigorous steps to attract investment, including direct foreign investment, and maintain macroeconomic stability and economic growth at a level of at least 8%.To attain another strategic goal, i.e. the country's accelerated industrialization, the president ordered taking urgent additional measures to put into operation idle facilities and prevent the stoppage of industrial enterprises and reduction of the output of a number of industrial products.Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda said earlier that Tajikistan's GDP grew in 2023 by 8.3%, with inflation staying within 3.8%, or 0.4 percentage points lower than in 2022.Foreign investment in Tajikistan amounted to 29.3 billion somoni last year, or 4.4% more than a year before, and its foreign trade grew 13.9%.The official exchange rate as of July 30 is 10.62 somoni/$1.
