RIYADH AL-THUMAMA ROAD BIDDERS GET MORE TIME

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has given firms until mid-September to submit bids for the contract to deliver the second section of the Al-Thumama Road development project in Riyadh. The previous deadline was 25 August. The scope covers the construction works on the section that stretches from Mohammed Bin Salman Road to Uthman Bin Affan Road, with a total length of 8.8 kilometres (km). Spanish engineering firm Idom is the project consultant.  The firms that have been invited to bid include: Almabani Freyssinet Saudi Arabia Haif Company Saudi Binladin Group Yuksel Saudia The project is part of RCRC’s development programme to ease traffic congestion in and around the capital of Saudi Arabia. RCRC said that the programme’s first phase will develop the axis of the main and ring roads to improve traffic movement in the city. RCRC said that the first project involves the construction of the second southern ring road, which will be 56 kilometres long and run from the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to the Jeddah Road in the west. The project includes four lanes for the main road in each direction and three lanes for the service road in each direction. It also includes the implementation of 10 main intersections and the construction of 32 bridges. In June, RCRC had awarded an estimated $2bn of contracts for the construction of ring roads stretching over 50km around Riyadh. The second project confirmed by RCRC is an $1bn design-and-build contract awarded for the upgrade of the Wadi Laban cable bridge in Riyadh.  in June  the contract was awarded to the joint venture of Turkish contracting firm IC Ictas and Riyadh-based Al-Rashid Trading & Contracting Company. The planned project aims to ease traffic congestion around the western ring road in the area extending from Ibn-Hazm Road to Jeddah Road. The contract also covers the construction of an intersection at Jeddah Road. The third project involves developing the western part of the Al-Thumama Road Axis, which is 6km long and extends from King Khalid Road in the west to King Fahd Road in the east. The fourth road project confirmed by RCRC extends from Taif Road in the Laban neighbourhood to the Qiddiya project.
