INDO EXPLORES NEW ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION SCHEME AND ENERGY INVESTMENT REFORMS

A new clause on network sharing between Indonesia's state-owned electricity company, PLN, and private electricity producers is part of the New and Renewable Energy Bill. The clause introduces a scheme which will allow green electricity suppliers to lease PLN's transmission network. Private companies will be able to sell green electricity directly to consumers as opposed to current regulations which only allows them to sell to PLN. Members of parliament and the government are yet to agree, delaying the bills approval. Critics argue that the scheme risks the country’s control over electricity. Conversely, the government seems to support the new scheme, believing it can attract renewable energy investment.Meanwhile, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the government will streamline the green energy permit requirements to boost investments. According to Lahadalia on Wednesday (18/9), stringent requirements is holding back Indonesia’s green energy transition. On the same day, President Joko Widodo acknowledged the lengthy permit process for geothermal power projects, noting the need for reforms to expedite the process and boost investment in the renewable energy sector. Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/president-jokowi-criticizes-geothermal-permit-delays-calls-for-reforms (ICE GIACARTA)
