Kazakhstan ratifies Organization of Turkic States' agreement on simplified customs corridorPresident of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law “On ratification of the agreement between the governments of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States on the creation of a simplified customs corridor", the press service of the head of state reported.As previously reported, the initiator of the agreement is the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), which has its headquarters in Istanbul. The agreement was concluded in order to improve the efficiency and reduce the time of customs control of goods and vehicles moving between the territories of the member states.In accordance with the agreement, information on goods moved by traders using the simplified customs corridor will be exchanged on a voluntary basis.Economic operators within the simplified customs corridor will be granted benefits such as: priority customs clearance at checkpoints; simplified customs formalities where possible, including separate traffic lanes that reduce clearance time; non-application of customs inspection at checkpoints (destination), except in cases where a risk of violation of the customs legislation of the Contracting States is identified.The agreement is concluded for an indefinite period and either party may terminate its participation in the agreement by written notification through diplomatic channels.The members of the OTS are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Hungary and Turkmenistan are observers to the OTS. (ICE ALMATY)
