CHINA-ASEAN FREE TRADE AREA 3.0 NEGOTIATIONS SUBSTANTIALLY CONCLUDED
On October 10, 2024, the 27th China-ASEAN Leaders' Meeting was held in Vientiane, Laos. At the meeting, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and the leaders of the ten ASEAN countries announced the substantial conclusion of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 negotiations and issued a joint statement on the substantial conclusion of the negotiations. Li Qiang said: This agreement will provide institutional guarantees for the joint construction of a super-large market. China is willing to actively promote infrastructure cooperation such as railways and ports with ASEAN, accelerate the signing and implementation of the 3.0 version of the Free Trade Agreement, strengthen the connection with cross-border payment systems, and expand the scale of local currency settlement. China is willing to explore measures such as unilateral opening up to ASEAN countries, gradually move towards a higher level of two-way opening up and promote the development of regional economic integration. It is hoped that the construction of a sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystem will be promoted to accelerate the digital transformation of industries.
