PKP Intercity, which is preparing for the liberalisation of the Polish rail market and an entry of competitors after 2030, continues to buy new rolling stock and now the company has announced a tender procedure for 42 electric multiple units, with an option to increase the number of EMUs to 72. The basic contract is worth ca. PLN10bn gross and if the option to order 30 EMUs more is exercised, the value of the contract will rise to ca. PLN17bn gross. The EMUs are to be multi-system, accelerate to at least 200 km/h and take a minimum of 500 seated passengers on board and have a maximum length of 160 metres. (ICE VARSAVIA)
