THE HYBRID CAR MARKET COMPETITION IN INDONESIA IS GETTING TIGHTER
Data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) shows that national wholesale sales (factory to dealer) of hybrid cars were recorded at 40,702 units in January-September 2024. This figure increased by 19.23% year on year (YoY) compared to the same period the previous year, which was 34,135 units.Chairman I of Gaikindo Jongkie Sugiarto said that hybrid cars have proven to be in demand by many consumers due to various advantages such as fuel efficiency, low carbon emissions, no need for charging stations, and production costs are not as expensive as electric cars. It is no wonder that hybrid car sales have been on a positive trend throughout this year.He added that the competition in the national hybrid car market is expected to become tighter in the near future as more and more manufacturers are launching new hybrid cars, such as PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID), PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), and PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS). In addition, Chinese automotive giant BYD also sent a signal that it will bring plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) to Indonesia. This is stated in the Official Industrial Design News document No. 56/DI/2024 released by the Directorate of Copyright and Industrial Design of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/mobil-hybrid-makin-populer-di-indonesia-persaingan-semakin-ketat (ICE GIACARTA)
