KUWAIT AWARDS $1.3BN ROAD MAINTENANCE DEALS

Kuwait’s Public Authority for Roads & Land Transport has awarded contracts worth over KD400m ($1.3bn) for road maintenance works across the country.The three-year contracts were awarded to 18 local and international companies at a ceremony on Wednesday in the Sabhan industrial area in Kuwait.The contracts were signed by the Minister of Public Works, Noura Al-Mashaan.The contracts cover infrastructure upgrade works in various governorates, including roads, highways, rainwater networks, street lighting, telecom systems and other associated infrastructure.According to the official statement, the winning companies include Turkiye’s Limak, Qatar’s Al-Mohannadi for Roads and Kuwait’s Combined Group Contracting Company.Kuwait’s transport sector witnessed strong project activity last year, with more than $2.7bn-worth of contract awards. This marked the best year for contracts since 2017, when $2.3bn-worth of projects were awarded.In 2024, there have been $1.5bn of awards to date. These include a combined $852m-worth of contracts to Chinese companies for the infrastructure works on several clusters at the South Sabah Al-Ahmed Township.Kuwait has about $23bn-worth of planned infrastructure projects in the pre-execution stages, with $4.4bn in design and $1.2bn in the bidding phase.According to GlobalData, the construction industry in Kuwait is expected to rebound at an annual average growth rate of 7.1% from 2025 to 2028, supported by investments in renewable energy, transport, and oil and gas projects, coupled with investments as part of the New Kuwait 2035 National Development Plan.The infrastructure construction sector is expected to decline by 6.7% in real terms in 2024, before stabilising at an annual average growth rate of 14.1% from 2025 to 2028, supported by government plans to upgrade Kuwait’s transportation network, particularly through road infrastructure projects.
