SAUDI TEAM COMPLETES WORK ON WAVE TWO PPP SCHOOLS PROJECT
Saudi-based contracting firm BEC Arabia and Mobco Group have announced that they have completed the construction works on the first phase of the Wave Two public-private partnership (PPP) school projects in Medina. The $320m scheme involves the finance, design, build and facility management of 60 schools across 44 sites in Medina for a period of 23 years. The construction period was three years under the Build, Maintain, and Transfer (BMT) model. A consortium comprising local firms Vision Invest, Al-Omran Group and Canadian engineering firm AtkinsRealis is developing the project. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and Tatweer Buildings Company (TBC) are the joint procurers of the scheme. TBC and MOE signed agreements for the first phase of the PPP schools scheme in November 2020. The first phase, which is referred to as Wave One, achieved the financial close in 2021. Wave One includes the development of 60 schools in Jeddah and Mecca. (ICE RIYADH)
