Tajikistan sees 8.4% GDP growth rate for first 9 months of 2024 The Tajik government has summed up the results of the domestic socio-economic development for the first nine months of 2024 and objectives set until the end of 2024, the Tajik presidential press service said."We have achieved an 8.4% GDP growth rate in the first nine months of this year. During this period, industrial production increased by over 15%, agriculture by over 11%, paid services by 16%, freight shipping by 15%, passenger traffic and trade 12%, investment in fixed assets by 7%, and the inflation rate within the target indicators reached 3%," Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said at a government meeting.Despite the mentioned results, there are still a number of flaws that require urgent measures from the government, ministries, agencies and local state executive authorities, Rahmon said.It was instructed to secure domestic economic development at the level of at least 8% through the effective implementation of the adopted programs and plans.It was emphasized that the target for the state budget revenues has been fulfilled by 105.4% in the first nine months of this year, with the budget having gained 33.3 billion somoni overall.Only $334 million of direct foreign investment was registered in the country in the first nine months of this year, which is up 58% year-on-year, Rahmon said. He tasked relevant ministries and agencies with taking additional measures to raise as much foreign direct investment in the domestic economy as possible.During the review, Rahmon focused on expanding the process of cashless settlements and digitalization of providing services and called for the efficient implementation of the operations of the Republican Headquarters for digitalization of public services and cashless settlements.To accomplish the fourth national objective, which involves accelerated industrialization nationwide, Rahmon tasked responsible government officials with taking immediate measures to ensure the uninterrupted operation of existing production enterprises, making efficient use of existing capacity, addressing the problems of enterprises and workshops that have terminated their activities, eliminating artificial and administrative barriers and creating favorable conditions for industrial entrepreneurship.The problems of lowering electricity losses and collection of funds for its use remain unresolved in the energy sector for the first nine months of this year, he said.It was instructed to ensure timely and quality implementation of projects to reduce electricity losses in the cities and districts of the country, undertake effective measures towards the introduction of billing systems and full accounting of electricity consumers, and timely collection of funds from the population, organizations and enterprises.
