KUWAIT'S AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION SURGES TO 73.1 MILLION USD IN 9 MONTHS.
Kuwait produced approximately 200.5 thousand tons of agricultural goods, covering 72 types including vegetables, fruits, and leafy greens, in the first nine months of 2024, with a total value exceeding 73 million USD, according to official data. The General Administration of Statistics reported that local agricultural production reached 98.85 thousand tons valued at 29.7 million USD in the first quarter of 2024. However, production fell by 23.9 percent in the second quarter to 75.225 thousand tons, valued at 29.4 million USD. This decline continued sharply in the third quarter, with production down by 64.8 percent to 10.744 thousand tons, valued at 6.4 million USD. Tomatoes led as the highest-produced crop, with a yield of approximately 68.066 thousand tons, valued at 16.4 million USD. Cucumbers followed, totaling 40.887 thousand tons worth 14.6 million USD, while potatoes accounted for 15.66 thousand tons, valued at 7.1 million USD. Pepper ranked fourth with 12.341 thousand tons worth about 7.9 million USD, and eggplant totaled 15.833 thousand tons, valued at 6.8 million USD. Together, these five crops contributed approximately 76.2 percent of the total production, amounting to 15.28 thousand tons, and valued at 16.212 million USD, or about 72.38 percent of the total product value.Additionally, Kuwait's lettuce production reached 10.66 thousand tons, valued at 3.1 million USD. Other crops included 6.124 thousand tons of pumpkin at 1.9 million USD, 1.16 tons of okra at 1.7 million USD, 4.812 thousand tons of cauliflower at 1.4 million USD, and 2.4 thousand tons of zucchini at 1.3 million USD. Cowpea, beans, cabbage, corn, and watercress were also notable, with yields of 936 tons, 933.7 tons, 4.863 thousand tons, 1.321 thousand tons, and 1.315 thousand tons, valued at 1.2 million USD, 1.1 million USD, 820 thousand USD, 710 thousand USD, and 663 thousand USD, respectively.
